  2. Sleep Disorders Program: Conditions and Treatments

    Beyond an occasional night when you might have trouble falling asleep, sleep disorders can affect your health and well-being more than most people realize. With at least 84 known types of sleep disorders, people who have sleep disorders experience diminished health, a lower quality of life and can become public safety risks due to the effects on driving and industrial accidents. Sleep apnea is a common sleep disorder, but there are as many as 80 other conditions that can affect the quality of your sleep and health.
  3. Sleep Disorders Program: Diagnostic Tests

    When you come to us for help, we ask you to complete a survey, such as the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) questionnaire, that helps determine which additional studies are appropriate for you. You may be asked to spend the night at the center where our specially trained staff perform an overnight sleep study. Our sleep physicians use the following studies to evaluate sleep disorders: Polysomnogram An overnight sleep study to observe and monitor your breathing, heart rate and oxygen level during sleep. Multiple sleep latency test (MSLT) A daytime study that measures the speed of falling asleep.

    Inova's sleep disorder teams encompass physicians trained in the field of sleep medicine, as well as technical staff including registered polysomnographic technologists who have additional experience in respiratory care, neurodiagnostics and cardiac monitoring. Scheduling A physician referral may be needed to schedule a sleep study. Call your physician and ask him or her to fax your referral to the sleep disorder clinic where you would like to make an appointment.

    The Inova Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease Program provides exceptional care to our patients through screenings, advanced imaging and treatments, surgical intervention, and rehabilitation. We combine the latest technologies with compassionate and individualized support. All of our hospitals have in-hospital stroke experts who work effectively with local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and coordinated care teams for prompt and effective treatment of acute strokes, as well as rehabilitative care and post stroke medical management.
