Volunteering at Inova Fairfax (For Experienced High School Volunteers)

As an experienced IFMC high school volunteer you receive first choice over incoming students for assignment area and schedule. In order to make sure that you receive the schedule that you want and that the appropriate amount of new volunteers are brought on, all continuing and returning volunteers must register each session. Upcoming registration windows can be found below. Registration The high school student volunteer program receives a high volume of interest and applicants. As a result, selection to the program is by lottery. As a benefit of Inova employment, children of Inova employees are exempt from the lottery. Please review the dates below carefully, as fulfilling the commitment is a major determinant for placement. Note: Students who are selected and participate in a session's entirety will have the opportunity to continue for future sessions. Upcoming Sessions Spring Session 2: April 10 – June 18, 2023 Expand Content Please note: Effective January 1, 2023, the minimum age to volunteer is 16 years old. Lottery Registration   Opens Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 10 a.m. and closes Thursday, March 2 at 11:45 p.m. Lottery Selection (new volunteers only)   Friday, March 3 Notification will be made via email prior to 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 3.   Mandatory Information Meeting   Thursday, March 9, 7 to 9 p.m. Attendance is required, and the student must be accompanied by a parent. Mandatory Training Class    Wednesday, March 29, 4:30 – 7:30 p.m. Mandatory Session Dates   Monday, April 10 – Sunday, June 18, 2023   Commitment   2 Shifts Per Week Weeknight Shift: 4:45 to 8:15 p.m. Weekend Shift: 9:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. or 1 to 5:15 p.m. Students will have the opportunity to select their scheduling preferences during the information meeting.  Additional Information   Experienced volunteers will receive confirmation of their service within one week of the close of registration. New volunteers will receive confirmation within one week of attending the mandatory information meeting. NOTE: To develop outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills, new volunteers service their first session in the Gift Shop. As a returning volunteer, you’ll have opportunity to select other service area assignments.
