  2. Sources for Organ Donation

    Sources for Organ Donation Kidneys can be donated by either a deceased donor or a living donor. We also perform pancreas transplants from deceased donors, combined kidney/pancreas transplants (K/P) and pancreas after kidney transplants (PAK). Deceased Donor Information Expand Content Whenever the family members of a terminally ill patient make the decision to donate their loved one's organs, the Washington Regional Transplant Community (WRTC), our area's local organ procurement organization, performs tests which help determine which organs can be donated.
  3. Transplantation and Beyond

    Whether you are an organ transplant recipient or living donor, our team will accompany you through every step of your surgery and recovery process. Surgery Surgery for recipients and/or donors can take three to four hours and usually does not require blood products. The transplanted kidney is placed in the lower abdomen and the native kidneys remain in place. Recipients who have living donors are scheduled at the same time for surgery and come to the transplant center one to two weeks prior to their procedure for preoperative labs, education and preparation.
  4. Liver Disease Services Team

    The work of the Inova Fairfax Hospital Center for Liver Diseases is achieved through a well-coordinated team of hepatology experts working within the Center for Liver Diseases. Staffing for the Center for Liver Diseases consists of board-certified gastroenterologists/ hepatologists, a physician assistant, clinical research coordinators and a nurse manager.   5. Brian Lam, MSHS, PA-C

    Brian Lam, MSHS, PA-C, has enjoyed working in hepatology for over a decade. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of California Los Angeles, and he completed his Master of Science in Health Sciences in Physician Assistance studies at top-ranked The George Washington University in 2003. He has provided clinical care to patients with many forms of liver disease, particularly hepatitis B, hepatitis C, autoimmune and cholestatic liver disease and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and steatohepatitis.
  6. Zachary D. Goodman, MD, PhD

    Zachary D. Goodman, MD, PhD, is the director of hepatic pathology consultation and research at Inova Fairfax Hospital. Dr. Goodman serves as a resource to both the Pathology Department and the Center for Liver Diseases at Inova Fairfax Hospital and the Betty and Guy Beatty Center for Integrated Research, Inova Health System. Dr. Goodman is a recognized expert in hepatobiliary pathology and liver biopsy interpretation.
