Congenital Heart Disease Program We Treat Newborns to Adults. Inova's Congenital Heart Disease Program started in 1994 as one of the country's first programs to care for congenital heart disease patients. Today, our team of highly specialized physicians continues to care for patients in every stage of congenital heart disease. We offer the only program in Northern Virginia with continuity of care for infants, kids, and newly-diagnosed adults or those treated in childhood.

Our Team Inova offers patients the collective expertise of board-certified adult and pediatric specialists. Our congenital heart team includes adult congenital cardiologists and surgeons from Inova Heart and Vascular Institute (IHVI) and pediatric cardiologists and cardiac surgeons from Inova Children's Heart Center. Our team of specialists thoroughly understands the natural history of congenital heart disease and the techniques necessary to address it utilizing surgery or interventional procedures.

Heart Failure and Advanced Therapies Program A diagnosis of advanced heart failure, also known as congestive heart failure or CHF, indicates heart disease that has progressed to a point where traditional therapies and symptom management are no longer working. Over time, the heart becomes enlarged and the tissue becomes damaged. Heart failure is most common in people over age 65 and is a leading cause of hospitalization for this age group.
