Apply Online What You'll Learn As a nurse extern, you will be paired with an experienced registered nurse (RN) preceptor at one of our five hospitals who will guide you through the externship program. With direction from leaders who care and access to top-tier resources, you will become familiar with the role and responsibilities of an RN by delivering basic patient care in accordance with the program's completed competency requirements and your assigned unit's needs. You will seek opportunities to enhance your practice knowledge based on your unique learning goals. Together, we will learn, advance and succeed as you begin your pursuit of a fulfilling nursing career. This program is offered at all Inova hospitals in a variety of specialty areas.
