General Information Age Group Adults Status Recruiting Protocol Number NCT03561220 Background Information Two types of radiation treatment are routinely used for prostate cancer: photon (X-ray) therapy and proton therapy. The purpose of this study is to directly compare the two therapies to determine which one has better disease control and fewer patient-reported and physician-reported side effects. Offered At Inova Schar Cancer Institute 8081 Innovation Park Dr. Fairfax, VA 22031 A department of Inova Fairfax Hospital Eligibility Information Adult males between 30 and 85 years of age A life expectancy estimation (LEE) of ≥ 8 years Diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of the prostate Localized prostate cancer, as confirmed by staging with PSA, biopsy, Gleason score, DRE with or without mpMRI, and clinical stage Additional eligibility information in protocol Ineligibility Information Findings of metastatic disease (nodal or distant, N1 or M1) Prior procedures for treatment of prostate cancer, such as radical or robotic prostatectomy, high-intensity focused ultrasound, cryosurgery, or focal prostatectomy [note that procedures used for benign prostatic hyperplasia symptoms, such as transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and GreenLight Laser Therapy, are acceptable] Previous prostate cancer treatment with the exception of ADT according to NCCN guidelines History of invasive rectal malignancy or other pelvic malignancy, regardless of disease-free interval Active inflammatory bowel disease (i.e., patients requiring medical interventions or who are symptomatic) Prior pelvic RT for any reason Additional ineligibility in protocol Additional information can be found at: https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT03561220 Contact Information Contact Name Sangeetha Moturi Contact Phone 571-472-0343 Contact Email Send Email
