Dr. Timothy Cannon is Sheridan Director, Molecular Tumor Board and Co-Director of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Program at Inova. He is a specialty care physician board certified in medical oncology. He has a special interest in management of gastrointestinal malignancies. Dr. Cannon is the clinical director and moderator of the weekly molecular tumor board at Inova, which matches patients with targeted therapies based on molecular diagnostics. He is very interested in national cooperative group clinical trials and is a member of the NRG colorectal and non-colorectal clinical trials committee. He is the site principal investigator for multiple clinical trials in immunotherapy. Dr. Cannon is chair-elect of the steering committee for the TAPUR trial, which is the largest oncology basket trial in North America. He also served as the chief fellow of hematology/oncology at New York University (NYU). Dr. Cannon was voted fellow of the year at NYU during each of his last two years there. He received a "best doctor" award by Northern Virginia magazine in 2015. A native of New Jersey, Dr. Cannon is married with two sons. His wife, Amy, works for Save the Children. In his spare time, he likes to play sports (particularly soccer, flag football, tennis) and read books. He was a member of two Division I basketball teams (University of Utah as a freshman and then later at Brigham Young University) in the 1990s and continues to be a huge basketball fan.
