Recent graduates of the Nurse Residency Program at Inova Alexandria Hospital. Strengthening Our Future Transitioning from nursing school to clinical practice is an exciting and anxious time for a nurse. Developing critical decision-making skills, becoming socially acclimated to hospital culture and growing as a member of our renowned Inova care team can be overwhelming. Inova Alexandria Hospital (IAH) is committed to enabling a successful transition to practice for new nurses by participation in the Vizient / American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Nurse Residency Program (NRP). This national program builds on the AACN Baccalaureate Essentials of Education and curriculum is based on Benner’s Novice to Expert Theory and Knowles Adult Learning Principles. The Nurse Residency Program (NRP) is a one-year, evidence-based program designed to support the transition of the new Inova nurse. Residents will participate in monthly interactive seminars offering the opportunity to expand skills related to clinical reasoning, communication and leadership skills. Residents will participate in an evidence-based practice project improving patient care. The program employs valid and reliable tools to measure the resident’s confidence, competence, and acclimation into professional practice at prescribed intervals.
