Virtual Visits Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Who is eligible for a virtual visit? Expand Content All current and new patients with a non-healing or chronic wound. For new patients, your initial visit may be an in-person office appointment. Thereafter, your visits may be through telemedicine or a combination of both depending on the complexity of your wound. Not all wounds are treatable via telemedicine. For these patients, in-person visits may be best. During your initial call to coordinate your appointment, we will determine whether or not telemedicine is right for you. What services are provided via a virtual visit? Expand Content A non-healing or chronic wound is defined as a wound that does not improve after four weeks or does not heal in eight weeks. These include: Diabetic foot ulcers* Venous-related ulcerations Non-healing surgical wounds Pressure ulcers Wounds related to metabolic disease Wounds that repeatedly break down *If you have diabetes, any sore or tender spot on the foot warrants immediate attention from a physician, regardless of how long the wound has been present. Inova Wound Healing physicians have expertise in treating diabetes-related foot wounds. What can I expect? Expand Content During your visit you can expect to interface with a physician or advanced practice provider (APP) that is specially trained in the treatment and management of complex wounds. These providers will develop a treatment plan that is catered to your unique needs. Some of your appointments may be in-person office visits depending on the complexity of your wounds. Combining in-person checkups with telemedicine has been clinically proven to result in excellent outcomes and high patient satisfaction. What is the schedule of visits and when will I see my provider? Expand Content For most patients, you will see the provider once a week until your wound is healed. At your first visit the provider will assess your wound and determine the frequency of visits needed. This may be a mixture of in-person and telemedicine visits throughout the course of your time with us. What will I need at home to participate in telehealth visits? Expand Content To participate in telemedicine visits, you will need a phone or a computer with an internet connection. A family member or aid to assist with holding the device if possible.
