Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) at Inova Wound Healing Centers Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBO) is a highly effective, safe treatment during which 100% oxygen is inhaled by a patient for short periods of time in a pressurized chamber. Normally the air we breathe is 20% oxygen and 80% nitrogen. Breathing 100% pure oxygen increases the amount of oxygen available to your body’s tissues helping the body to heal, fight off infection, decrease swelling and aid in the new growth of new blood vessels. Studies have shown that certain physical problems respond exceptionally well to HBO treatments. As part of your overall care plan, HBO can help treat a variety of conditions.
